[Offshore Energy/ April 30, 2024] French shipping heavyweight CMA CGM has held a naming ceremony for the newest addition to its fleet, CMA CGM Ambition. The naming ceremony took place at Samsung Heavy Industries’ Geoje shipyard. The new low-carbon-energy-ready ship is 268 meters long and 43 meters wide.

It is the latest addition to a series of 7,300 TEU vessels powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). Other 7,500 TEU containerships include CMA CGM Innovation, CMA CGM Legacy, and CMA CGM Endurance.

To remind, a few weeks ago, CMA CGM welcomed LNG dual-fuel CMA CGM Paraty into the fleet built by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC).

CMA CGM and public sector investment bank Bpifrance recently launched a 200 million fund dedicated to accelerating the energy transition in the French maritime industry. 110 million will be available in grants and 50 million for equity investments to support maritime firms’ decarbonization efforts.

What is more, 20 million will be dedicated to helping French fishing companies decarbonize their fleets. Moreover, a 20 million grant will be allocated directly by the fund to advance maritime research, propelling the industry into a sustainable future.
