[KSOE/ August 24 2023] HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE) said on Thursday it has developed the world's inaugural AI-engineers vessel. The company proudly announced the delivery of a cutting-edge 180,000-ton Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) powered bulk carrier, showcasing advanced AI-driven automation. The momentous occasion saw the ship being handed over to H-LINE Shipping, with construction taking place at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries in Yeongam, South Jeolla Province.

The pioneering AI system, a result of collaborative efforts between KSOE and H-LINE Shipping, encompasses two key components: the Integrated Condition Monitoring Solution (HiCBM) and the Integrated Safety Control Solution (HiCAMS). These remarkable innovations offer real-time diagnostics of vital ship machinery and automated identification of critical situations such as fire outbreaks, effectively functioning as AI crew members. This technological leap eliminates the need for human intervention during various operational phases.

The AI-infused vessel's safety and reliability underwent rigorous validation during a trial run, earning the seal of approval from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). In a significant development last September, the solutions secured Basic Certification (AIP) from ABS, cementing their readiness for real-world applications.

In June of the prior year, KSOE subsidiary successfully orchestrated the first-ever autonomous Atlantic crossing by a large commercial ship equipped with state-of-the-art autonomous sailing systems developed by Avikus Co., a subsidiary of KSOE. During this remarkable journey, the vessel admirably navigated substantial segments of its course sans human intervention.

As KSOE takes the lead in revolutionizing the shipbuilding domain, their concerted efforts in integrating AI into unmanned self-sailing ships come to the forefront. This landmark accomplishment not only propels the maritime industry into an era of unprecedented automation but also underscores KSOE's commitment to pushing technological boundaries.
