[KOLBIA/ May 3, 2023] Samsung Heavy Industries has announced that it has successfully developed a next-generation floating natural gas production facility (FLNG) model called MLF-N. The company received Approval in Principle for this proprietary model from Norwegian DNV class at the Offshore Technology Conference 2023 in Houston, USA. The MLF-N model has been developed in response to the current market demand for a faster and more economical FLNG model compared to land plants due to the recent increase in exports of major liquefied natural gas (LNG) producers.
The MLF-N model is characterized by standardizing linear and specifications, thereby implying various FLNG EPC(Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) performance and technology carried out by Samsung Heavy Industries. It has standardized the shape of LNG cargo hold and the hull surrounding it, allowing an increase in the cargo hold capacity from the basic 180,000 up to 245,000. It is also designed to support 50,000 tons of upper plant facilities, including natural gas liquefaction modules, from below. Samsung Heavy Industries claims that MLF-N is the best solution to meet all the needs of ordering companies that want to carry out LNG development easily, simply, and fast.
