[Yonhap/March 18, 2025] Samsung Heavy Industries Co., the world's third-largest shipbuilder by orders, said on 18th it has obtained a 466 billion-won (US$322 million) order to build two very large ethane carriers (VLECs) in Asia.

Samsung Heavy plans to deliver the high-end VLECs to an unidentified Asian shipper by February 2028, the company said in a press release.

The company did not provide the name of the shipper.

With the latest contract, the company has so far won about $1.9 billion worth of orders, or 19 percent, of its annual order target of $9.8 billion, it said.

It had an order backlog of $30.5 billion as of end-February, which will keep its Geoje-based shipyard, located about 330 kilometers south of Seoul, busy for the next three years.
