[Donsung Finetec Press release/ May15, 2025] Donsung Finetec is stepping up its push into eco-friendly business by expanding its gas trading operations, previously focused on supplying refrigerants and fire extinguishing agents, into the recycling sector.
The company announced on May 15 that it has completed a new facility at its Yeongnam plant in Ulsan, capable of recovering and purifying up to 120 tons of fire extinguishing agent refrigerants annually. This follows last year’s launch of a larger facility with a 720-ton annual capacity, which processes refrigerants recovered from end-of-life vehicles, air conditioners, and home appliances.
The new facility targets leftover refrigerants from fire extinguishing systems in building complexes and industrial sites. These are refined and reused, contributing to a more sustainable supply chain.
Donsung Finetec expects to complete commissioning by the end of May and begin full-scale operations in June.
Refrigerants are potent greenhouse gases, and their release significantly contributes to global warming. With tightening global regulations on refrigerant disposal, demand for recovery and purification is expected to grow.
“This expansion is part of our broader efforts to grow our eco-friendly portfolio in response to climate change and enhance corporate value,” said a Donsung Finetec official. “We’ll continue applying recycling technologies across the company—not just in our gas division.”
Meanwhile, Donsung Finetec is expanding its product portfolio, centered on cryogenic insulation materials, into the fuel tank sector as part of its strategy for sustainable growth. The company is also actively working to secure technologies for future energy sources, including LNG, liquid carbon dioxide, ammonia, and hydrogen.
