The agreement signals a deepening of ties between two major energy players as they navigate the accelerating global shift toward decarbonization. Petronas, founded in 1974, operates in more than 100 countries and has emerged as a global leader in energy transition efforts, with growing investments in hydrogen and renewable energy technologies.
More than ten senior officials from both companies attended the signing ceremony, including Oh Kwon-taek, Head of KOGAS’s Hydrogen & New Business Unit, and Shamsairi Mibrahim, Vice President of LNG Marketing and Trading at Petronas.
Under the agreement, KOGAS and Petronas will establish a joint working-level consultative body to explore cooperative projects across the LNG value chain, CCS, and clean hydrogen and renewable energy initiatives. The goal is to build a sustainable partnership that supports both companies’ clean energy ambitions.
KOGAS emphasized that this agreement marks a key step toward expanding its role in the global clean energy ecosystem, particularly amid the ongoing transition away from fossil fuels.
“This agreement is an important opportunity for KOGAS's business capabilities and Petronas's global network to pioneer the future energy market together,” said Oh Kwon-taek. “We will focus on cooperation measures that can create synergy between the two companies moving forward.”
