[KOGAS Press release/August 26, 2025] The Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS) announced on the 25th in Washington, U.S., that it has signed long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) introduction contracts with several suppliers, including global energy company Trafigura. Under the agreement, KOGAS will import an additional 3.3 million tons of LNG annually from the U.S. for 13 years, starting in 2028.

The signing ceremony was attended by key officials such as Choi Yeon-hye, president of KOGAS; Richard Haltham, president of Trafigura; and representatives from Cheniere, the largest LNG exporter in the United States. The LNG volumes will be sourced primarily from projects like Cheniere’s Corpus Christi facility in Texas.

KOGAS has been conducting international bidding since last year to secure this long-term LNG supply, aiming to diversify its procurement sources. Historically reliant on the Middle East, the corporation is shifting its focus to the U.S. as a key supplier.

Choi Yeon-hye, president of KOGAS, emphasized, “This contract marks a concrete achievement in our efforts to diversify supply lines, stabilize LNG supply and demand, and enhance competitiveness in natural gas pricing.”
