The company said on Jan. 6 that it recently signed a shipbuilding contract with a shipowner in the Americas for four 200,000-cubic-meter-class ultra-large liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers. The contract is valued at 1.4993 trillion won.
The vessels will be constructed at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ Ulsan shipyard and are scheduled for delivery by the first half of 2029.
With a cargo capacity larger than that of conventional 174,000-cubic-meter LNG carriers, the new ships are expected to improve transportation efficiency and lower shipping costs. Each vessel will measure 294.8 meters in length, 48.9 meters in width, and 26.7 meters in height.
