[Yonhap/ February 11, 2026] Samsung Heavy Industries Co. said Wednesday it has secured a 468.6 billion-won (US$322 million) contract to build two container carriers for a shipper in Africa.
The vessels are scheduled for delivery by May 2028, the company said in a press release, without giving the name of the client.
With the latest deal, Samsung Heavy said it has received ship orders worth $1.2 billion so far this year, achieving about 9 percent of its annual order target of $13.9 billion.
The company said it plans to focus on higher-margin container ship orders, citing its technological competitiveness in environmentally friendly vessels and rising replacement demand in the 8,000- to 13,000-twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) segment.
