[KOLBIA / January 8, 2024] Samsung Heavy Industries marked the completion of its cutting-edge multi-purpose barge designed for LNG bunkering in a celebratory ceremony held late last year. The 92.5 meters long and 36 meters wide vessel, named "Green Nuri," is set to commence full-scale operations starting this year.
Distinguished by its advanced features, the Green Nuri is equipped with a 6,000-㎥ LNG tank and two 350-㎥ liquefied nitrogen (LN2) tanks, showcasing its versatility for LNG bunkering, cooling tests, and gas trials through the Ship-to-Ship (STS) method. Samsung Heavy Industries proudly highlighted the inclusion of the KC-2C, an LNG tank exclusively developed by the company, emphasizing its structural integrity and safety credentials, verified through rigorous LNG testing facilities.
The introduction of such a multi-purpose barge is underscored by Samsung Heavy Industries' vision to expedite ship delivery schedules by mitigating LNG supply constraints and streamlining scheduling adjustments with domestic LNG terminals during the conclusive testing phase of constructing LNG carriers or LNG-fueled ships.
The Green Nuri, now fully operational, is now poised to assume a pivotal role in LNG bunkering activities. Plans are in place to provide bunkering services for 54 new vessels in 2024, followed by an additional 20 vessels in 2025. This development reflects Samsung Heavy Industries' commitment to advancing sustainable and efficient solutions in the maritime industry.
