[Yonhap News Agency/ December 20, 2023] In a recent development, Choi Sung-an, the Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of Samsung Heavy Industries Co., has been appointed as the 20th President of the Korea Offshore & Shipbuilding Association (KOSHIPA). The decision was made during an extraordinary general meeting held on March 19.
Choi's term of office as the new president is set to span from April 20 to April 14, 2025.
KOSHIPA is a prominent association within the maritime sector, representing eight major shipbuilders, including industry giants such as HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, Samsung Heavy Industries, Hanwha Ocean, Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, HJ Heavy Industries, K-Chosun, and Daesun Shipbuilding.
Addressing the challenges and transformations facing the industry, Choi expressed his commitment to steering the shipbuilding and marine sector through a period of digital transformation and transitioning toward a decarbonized industrial structure. He acknowledged the prevailing uncertainties in the management environment due to factors such as low growth, high prices, and manpower shortages.
"We will harness our collective capabilities to support the shipbuilding and marine industry in navigating the challenges and emerging as leaders in the future market," Choi affirmed, emphasizing the association's dedication to addressing the evolving needs of the industry.
