[LNG Prime/ July 13, 2023] South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries has hosted a naming ceremony for one 180,000-cbm LNG carrier it built for Denmark’s Celsius Tankers, a unit of Celsius Shipping.

Celsius Tech, a joint venture of Celsius Shipping and Hong Kong-based Fleet Management, announced on Wednesday via social media the naming ceremony and virtual sharing event for the LNG vessel, Celsius Geneva.

The JV will manage this newbuild LNG carrier, such as the four other 180,000-cbm LNG carriers which were delivered to Celsius during 2020 and 2021.

This is the first vessel of ten Celsius has on order at Samsung Heavy and it features MAN ME-GA engine and GTT’s Mark III Flex containment tech.

Celsius will take delivery of all of these newbuilds during 2023-2026.

Back in October 2021, the Danish firm signed long-term charter deals for this LNG carrier and three more vessels with Clearlake Shipping, a subsidiary of energy trader Gunvor.

In addition to these charters, Celsius Tankers, recently signed long-term charter deals for four more newbuild LNG carriers with Clearlake Shipping.

China Merchants Heavy Industry in Jiangsu will build these vessels and deliver them in 2026 and 2027.

Celsius also delivered its first vessel, Celsius Copenhagen, in 2020 to Clearlake to serve a long-term charter deal.
