[KOGAS Press release/August 19, 2024] Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS) has successfully finalized the roof-raising process for four 270,000㎘ LNG storage tanks at the Dangjin LNG Terminal. This milestone marks a significant advancement in the terminal's construction, showcasing KOGAS's engineering capabilities.
The roof-raising technique involves constructing a 1,350-ton roof on the floor of the LNG storage tank and then injecting air between the tank bottom and the roof. This method lifts the roof up to 45 meters, reducing construction time and enhancing stability compared to traditional methods.
In May, KOGAS completed the roofing of the first storage tank. Following this, the roofs for the No. 2 and No. 4 storage tanks were successfully installed in June, with the No.3 tank's roofing completed safely thereafter.
With the roofing phase concluded, KOGAS will now focus on internal construction, including the installation of steel plates and insulation materials. The company aims to complete all phases of the LNG Terminal construction by 2030.
A KOGAS official stated, "We are developing the 891,000㎡ Dangjin LNG Terminal at the Seokmun National Industrial Complex in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province, to ensure a stable supply of natural gas across Korea. We are committed to supporting the national energy policy and contributing to the local economy through collaboration with Dangjin City and regional businesses."
