[BPA Press release/July 23, 2025] The Busan Port Authority (BPA) announced that on the afternoon of the 23rd, the LNG bunker vessel Blue Whale, owned by Korea LNG Bunkering Co., Ltd. (KOLB), successfully completed an LNG bunkering operation for the MSC Calais, a 7,900 TEU container ship operated by Swiss shipping company MSC, at the New Port Pier (PNC) in Busan Port.
This operation aligns with BPA’s “2050 Comprehensive Plan for Carbon Neutrality,” supporting the maritime industry’s transition to eco-friendly fuels and contributing to the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) decarbonization goals. The bunkering highlights the growing role of LNG as a cleaner alternative to traditional marine fuels, especially as more global carriers adopt low-emission vessels.
Additionally, the operation was conducted under SIMOPS (Simultaneous Operations), allowing cargo unloading and LNG refueling to take place at the same time. According to BPA, this approach enhances port efficiency and supports the time-sensitive schedules of international shipping companies, further strengthening Busan Port’s position as a high-performance logistics hub.
