[KOGAS Press release/ May 9, 2024] Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS) has successfully executed the roof air-raising of its mammoth 270,000 ㎘ LNG storage tank, marking a historic milestone in Korea's energy infrastructure. The operation, completed on May 9th at the Dangjin LNG Terminal, stands as a testament to KOGAS's engineering prowess.
This accomplishment marks the first of four such colossal storage tanks being constructed at the Dangjin LNG Terminal. KOGAS aims to finalize roofing operations for the remaining tanks by August.
Employing the innovative Roof Air-Raising method, KOGAS fabricated a massive 1,350-ton roof at the base of the LNG storage tank. Subsequently, air was strategically injected between the tank floor and the roof, elevating it to an impressive height of 45 meters. This technique not only expedites the construction process but also ensures unparalleled stability, distinguishing it from conventional methods.
Beyond this milestone, KOGAS remains committed to fortifying Korea's energy security. In alignment with the Korean government's long-term natural gas supply and demand plan, KOGAS is diligently establishing an LNG production hub at the Seokmun National Industrial Complex in Dangjin-si, Chungcheongnam-do. This strategic initiative aims to bolster the stable production and distribution of natural gas within the region.
Looking ahead, KOGAS has ambitious plans for the Dangjin LNG terminal. By 2025, the corporation intends to erect four storage tanks along with essential facilities, including docks and ports for LNG ship berths. The ultimate vision encompasses the completion of ten storage tanks and associated infrastructure by 2030, cementing KOGAS's pivotal role in Korea's energy landscape.
