[KR Press release/ September 20, 2024] HD Hyundai Mipo has received approval from the Korean Register (KR) for two new bunkering vessels: a 23,000-cubic-meter ammonia vessel and an 18,000-cubic-meter LNG vessel. This approval was granted on September 18.
HD Hyundai Mipo designed the ammonia vessel specifically to handle ammonia's unique properties. KR reviewed this design to ensure it met safety standards and regulations before granting approval.
On the same day, KR also approved the LNG bunkering vessel. HD Hyundai Mipo used its expertise in gas carrier technology to create the design and cargo systems for this vessel. KR confirmed its safety and compliance with the necessary regulations.
Yeontae Kim from KR emphasized the importance of these vessels in light of new environmental rules. Dong-jin Lee from HD Hyundai Mipo noted the growing interest in ammonia and LNG as low-carbon fuels and expected more demand for vessels that support these fuels.
