[Yonhap/October 27, 2025] Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) announced on October 27 that it has successfully delivered an LNG carrier equipped with the domestically developed Korean LNG cargo tank ‘KC-2C’ to Korea Line LNG. The vessel, handed over earlier this month, has already completed its maiden voyage, transporting liquefied natural gas from Tongyeong to the Jeju Aewol LNG base.

The KC-2C system represents Korea’s first independently developed LNG cargo containment technology. SHI previously mounted the KC-2C on its multi-purpose LNG bunkering barge “Green Nuri” in 2023, conducting a series of demonstrations including LNG bunkering, cooling tests, and gas commissioning at its Geoje Shipyard.

A Samsung Heavy Industries official highlighted the achievement, saying, “The success of the Korean LNG cargo tank KC-2C marks a meaningful advancement in the LNG carrier sector by localizing core technologies previously dependent on foreign sources.” The company added that it aims to expand adoption of the KC-2C system through retrofits and newbuilds of 174,000-cubic-meter-class LNG carriers in the future.
