[Yonhap/ November 20, 2025] Samsung Heavy Industries announced in a regulatory filing on November 20 that it has secured a contract worth approximately 1.922 trillion KRW (about 1.45 billion USD) from an Asian shipowner to build seven container vessels. The ships are slated for sequential delivery through November 2029.

With global demand for environmentally friendly ships on the rise, orders for LNG dual-fuel (DF) container vessels have been steadily increasing. This latest contract brings Samsung Heavy Industries’ total order volume for the year to 6.9 billion USD.

By vessel type, the company has so far won orders for seven LNG carriers, nine shuttle tankers, nine container ships, two ethane carriers, eleven crude oil carriers, and one contract for preparatory work on an offshore production facility—39 units in total across a diverse portfolio.

Samsung Heavy Industries’ cumulative order backlog now stands at 132 vessels valued at 28.2 billion USD, securing a stable pipeline of work for the years ahead.
