[Yonhap News Agency/July 1, 2024] Samsung Heavy Industries has announced a major contract with a shipowner in the Middle East, marking a significant development in its shipbuilding endeavors.
The deal involves the construction of four LNG carriers valued at approximately KRW 1,438.1 billion. These vessels are scheduled for delivery to the client by August 2028.
With this latest agreement, Samsung Heavy Industries has secured a total of 22 orders so far this year. These orders encompass 19 LNG carriers, two VLAC carriers, and a shuttle tanker. The cumulative value of these contracts amounts to $4.9 billion, representing 51% of the company's targeted order intake of $9.7 billion for the year. Moreover, Samsung's current order backlog stands impressively at $33.7 billion.
