[Yonhap/ August 14, 2025] Hanwha Ocean held a naming ceremony for two super-large liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers at its Geoje shipyard on the morning of August 14. These vessels represent the first and second in a series of five LNG carriers ordered by U.S. LNG producers in 2022, a contract valued at a total of $1.2 billion.
The event was attended by Kim Jung-kwan, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, marking his first official appearance to a shipyard since taking office. During the ceremony, Minister Kim reaffirmed the government's support for the "Make American Shipbuilding Great Again (MASGA)" initiative — a project aimed at strengthening Korea-U.S. cooperation in the global shipbuilding industry.
