[KOGAS Press Release/September 29, 2025] Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS) has entered into a trilateral partnership with GS Engineering & Construction (GS E&C) and Sumitomo Corporation Korea to advance cross-border collaboration on clean hydrogen infrastructure.

The three companies signed an MOU for the Development of a Hydrogen Import Terminal in Korea, KOGAS announced on September 29.

Attendees at the signing ceremony included Oh Kwon-taek, Head of the Hydrogen & New Business Unit at KOGAS; Kim Dong-wook, Vice President of the Plant Business Division at GS E&C; and Ohashi Daisuke, President of Sumitomo Corporation Korea.

Under the agreement, the partners will conduct joint technology reviews and establish a foundation for commercializing liquefied hydrogen hubs between Korea and Japan. Each company will contribute distinct expertise: KOGAS will provide government policy insights and oversee project scheduling; GS E&C will supply EPC capabilities and infrastructure development plans; and Sumitomo will deliver value chain intelligence based on Japan’s hydrogen market and equipment technology.

The collaboration is intended to accelerate the buildout of Korea’s hydrogen supply infrastructure while bolstering both countries’ standing in the emerging global hydrogen economy.

“This agreement is a meaningful first step toward accelerating the transition to a clean hydrogen ecosystem,” said KOGAS’s Oh. “By combining our capabilities and networks, we will pave the way into the global liquefied hydrogen market.”

GS E&C’s Kim described the partnership as a turning point in expanding from traditional petrochemical-focused plant construction into eco-friendly energy infrastructure. Sumitomo’s Ohashi expressed hope that the initiative would become “a takeoff point for Korea’s hydrogen economy.”
