[Yonhap/ November 6, 2025] Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has taken another step toward strengthening its presence in the U.S. maritime sector. The company announced on November 6 that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with DSEC, a Korean ship design and equipment procurement specialist, to promote modernization in the U.S. shipbuilding industry.

DSEC, a mid-sized domestic firm, works with U.S. shipyards across various areas including vessel design, equipment supply, maintenance, and shipyard consulting for both commercial and specialized vessels.

Under the new agreement, SHI and DSEC will expand cooperation in multiple domains across domestic and international markets—particularly in the United States. The partnership will focus on medium-sized commercial ship construction, shipyard modernization consulting, vessel conversion and LNG carrier cargo tank repair, green and digital technology solutions, and R&D facility utilization.

SHI aims to establish an optimized supply chain system for the “MASGA Project” by integrating its shipbuilding and offshore construction technologies with DSEC’s design and procurement capabilities in the U.S. The two companies will jointly pursue U.S. shipyard modernization efforts to enhance competitiveness in the American market.

This move follows SHI’s earlier partnership with U.S.-based Vigor Marine Group, which specializes in maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of U.S. Navy support and special mission vessels. That collaboration marked SHI’s formal entry into the U.S. market.

Building on these strategic alliances, Samsung Heavy Industries plans to accelerate its expansion into global markets, including North America and Southeast Asia.
