[KOGAS Press release/ September 26, 2024] The Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS) announced on September 26 that it has achieved the highest grade of "CESS" (Certified Excellent Shipping Company and Shipper) as of September 25. This milestone marks KOGAS as the first public institution and the first entity in the bulk cargo sector to receive this prestigious certification.

Awarded by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the CESS designation recognizes shipowners and shippers who promote mutual growth through fair and stable maritime transport. Certified companies benefit from various advantages, including preferential financial rates, access to government projects, and reduced port facility usage fees.

KOGAS, a key player in the importation of LNG, received the top grade after excelling in 13 evaluation criteria. These included efforts toward shared growth, contributions to the shipping industry, and improvements in long-term contract fare conditions.

Since the introduction of its national LNG carrier program in 1994, KOGAS has fostered long-term partnerships with domestic shipping companies, aiming to boost sales and create jobs. This collaborative approach has garnered recognition and contributed to the growth of domestic companies in the global LNG transport market, with several now securing contracts with major international shippers such as Shell and Qatar Energy.

Choi Yeon-hye, president of KOGAS, remarked, "This recognition reflects our longstanding commitment to cooperative relationships with national shipping companies and our efforts in ESG management. Moving forward, KOGAS will continue to pursue sustainable development in the shipping industry through collaborative growth."
