[Business Korea/November 11, 2024] Hanwha Ocean has secured a significant order for two LNG carriers worth 713.5 billion won from Maran Gas Maritime Inc., a subsidiary of Greece's largest shipping company, the Angelicoussis Group. The announcement was made on Nov. 11, with the vessels scheduled for delivery in 2027. This contract also includes an option for two additional vessels, indicating potential future orders and further strengthening the long-standing partnership between the two companies.
The newly ordered LNG carriers are large-scale vessels with a capacity of 174,000㎥. They will be constructed at Hanwha Ocean's Geoje Shipyard in South Gyeongsang Province and will feature the company's renowned natural gas propulsion engine (ME-GI) and a full re-liquefaction system (FRS). These advanced technologies are designed to enhance fuel efficiency and reduce pollutant emissions compared to existing LNG carriers. Additionally, the vessels will incorporate Hanwha Ocean's latest eco-friendly technologies, such as the air lubrication system (ALS) and the shaft generator motor system (SGM), which are part of the company's smart energy-saving systems.
The Angelicoussis Group has been Hanwha Ocean's largest customer since placing its first order in 1994. To date, the group has ordered a total of 123 vessels from Hanwha Ocean, with the total value of these orders exceeding $15 billion, amounting to over 20 trillion won. A representative from Hanwha Ocean commented on the enduring relationship, stating, "The 30-year partnership is based on trust in the shipyard's technological capabilities," and added, "We will repay this trust by constructing the highest quality vessels."
This year alone, Hanwha Ocean has secured orders for 39 vessels, including 19 LNG carriers and LNG-FSRUs, 7 very large crude carriers (VLCCs), 6 container ships, 3 ammonia carriers, 1 offshore unit, and 3 special-purpose ships. The total value of these orders is $8.37 billion (11.64 trillion won), more than double last year's order value of $3.52 billion. With the latest order from Maran Gas, Hanwha Ocean's total orders for the year have reached 11.64 trillion won.
