[Yonhap, January 12, 2025] Hanwha Ocean has secured the Approval In Principle (AIP) from Norwegian classification society DNV for its innovative design of a lower buoyant structure for floating offshore wind turbines. The approval, granted on January 10, applies to the company's "WindHIVE 15-H3" conceptual design, marking a milestone in the development of renewable energy technology.

The AIP certification ensures that the WindHIVE 15-H3 meets international standards for technical stability and regulatory compliance. The design is intended to support large offshore wind turbines, capable of accommodating units up to 15 mega-watts, a key step in advancing floating wind power technology.

Floating offshore wind turbines differ from their fixed counterparts, requiring buoyant structures that float on water to support the turbine's weight. Hanwha Ocean's new design aims to address these challenges, positioning the company as a potential leader in the growing global offshore wind market.

A representative of Hanwha Ocean commented, “We will enhance our competitiveness in the global offshore wind market through continuous technological development and expansion of the value chain”.
