[KOGAS Press release/ June 4, 2025] The Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS) convened a two-day working-level meeting of the Safety Management Council for large-scale gas storage facilities on Jeju Island from June 4 to 5. The gathering aimed to enhance the safety protocols of liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals across the country.

More than 30 representatives from key organizations, including KOGAS, the Korea Gas Safety Corporation, the Korea Gas Technology Corporation, and private LNG terminal operators, participated in the event.

Held twice a year, the council serves as a platform for government and industry stakeholders to coordinate on proactive safety initiatives. Discussions focused on recent regulatory changes, past accident cases, and best practices in on-site safety management.

This session also featured presentations on cutting-edge developments in LNG terminal safety. Topics included safety innovations in facility maintenance leveraging Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies, anti-drone defense systems, storage tank safety rating frameworks, and new research on the operation of electric vehicles in explosion-prone zones.

“We are committed to ensuring the safe and stable supply of natural gas,” a KOGAS official stated. “The measures discussed during this council will be implemented on-site, reinforcing both safety management at LNG terminals and the global competitiveness of Korea’s LNG industry through close collaboration with sector partners.”
