[Yonhap/ January 28, 2026] Samsung Heavy Industries said on January 28 that it has won new shipbuilding contracts worth a combined USD 900 million, signaling a strong start to the year.

 

The latest orders comprise two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers valued at USD 500 million from a Bermuda-based shipping company, two very large ethane carriers (VLECs) worth USD 300 million ordered by an Asian shipowner, and one crude oil tanker valued at USD 100 million from a Liberia-based shipowner. In total, the company secured contracts for five vessels.

 

A company official said Samsung Heavy Industries’ cumulative order backlog now stands at 134 vessels, with a total value of approximately USD 28.7 billion.
