[Yonhap/ February 2, 2026] HD Hyundai said on the 2nd that it will showcase its next-generation gas carrier technologies at LNG 2026, the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry exhibition.

HD Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries will participate in the exhibition, which will be held at the Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC) in Doha from the 2nd to the 5th.

At the event, HD Hyundai will present a range of advanced gas carriers, including 178,000-cubic-meter and 174,000-cubic-meter LNG carriers equipped with wind-assisted propulsion systems, a 100,000-cubic-meter ultra-large ethane carrier, and a 90,000-cubic-meter very large liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carrier. During the exhibition, the company is also set to obtain approval in principle (AIP) from Bureau Veritas(French shipping register) for a 20,000-cubic-meter LNG bunkering ship.

HD Hyundai plans to expand joint development partnerships as well. It will first sign a business cooperation agreement with Lloyd’s Register(LR) to jointly develop 30,000-cubic-meter medium- and small-sized LNG carriers. The company will also sign a memorandum of understanding with DNV, the Norwegian classification society, to jointly develop a 6,000-cubic-meter LNG bunkering vessel for cruise ships and a 271,000-cubic-meter mega LNG carrier, known as Q-MAX.

In addition, HD Hyundai said it will accelerate the development of eco-friendly gas carriers. The company is working with the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) to develop a bio-boosted LNG carrier capable of using biofuel, and plans to jointly develop an ultra-large ethane carrier with France’s GTT.
